There are many people that suffer from skin complaints and most of these fall within the category of Eczema. Usually indicated by dry, red, flaking skin, in serious cases the victim may even have oozing or even bleeding. Often the problem is to stop the person from scratching the skin and to do this an Eczema treatment using drugs that help control itching are used.

Dermatitis causes the skin to remain dry so moisture has to be replaced. Unfortunately there are a number of products that can actually dry the skin out and it is these that the Eczema patient must stop using as soon as possible. Ointments called emollients are used to moisturize the skin. ight emollients like aqueous cream may dry the skin if it is very flaky, so heavier ointment should be used. Hydrocortisone and Desonide corticosteroids are two creams or ointments that have a good success rate at controlling moderate or lower cases of Eczema but cannot offer a long term treatment.
However, corticosteroids must be used sparingly to avoid possible side effects, the most common of which is when after prolonged use can cause the skin to thin and become fragile or atrophy. An allergic reaction to certain food stuffs or dietary habits may be a contributing factor to the cause and treatment of Eczema and dermatitis. This could be the breakthrough many Eczema victims have been waiting for once they have identified which foods are causing the flare-ups. Although it does depend on the person afflicted, the foods that can cause Eczema are: coffee, nuts, eggs, dairy products, wheat and Soya.
Not all of the Eczema treatments used to combat Eczema are conventional as both alternative medicine and Chinese Traditional medicine also have therapies available as well. However, if you use any of these methods you will need to inform your doctor. Traditional Chinese medicine and Western herbalism, suggest a wide variety of treatments, each of which may vary from individual to individual as there efficacy or harm. The use of antibiotics for the treatment of Eczema has happened owing to the fact that open skin would allow the entry of harmful bacteria.
An Eczema sufferer who scratches an itchy area can not only infect that area but also transfer that infection to other parts. Any skin infection further irritates the skin and a rapid deterioration in the condition may ensue; the appropriate antibiotic should be given. Light therapy using ultraviolet light can help treat eczema and although UVA is mostly used, UVB and Narrow Band UVB can also be useful. This treatment may have a limited application owing to the destructive nature that UVA Ultraviolet light has on the skin by causing skin cancer.
